5766 — Ekev
Two announcements this week:
Dr. Meesh Hammer-Kossoy, a member of the Pardes Talmud Faculty, will be speaking on
Use or Abuse? Divine Law in Human Hands
Rabbis of the Talmud at times seem to take great liberties with Torah law, sometimes legislating Torah law out of existence, other times apparently inventing new rules all together. One of the clearest cases of this bold innovation is in the criminal punishment system as it is developed in the Talmudic period. Using this examples as a model, we will explore the rights and responsibilities of the rabbis then and now.
Location and time:
New York City, Wednesday, August 8th at 6:30 pm
The Drisha Institute for Jewish Education
37 West 65th Street, 5th Floor
New York, NY 10023
To RSVP, please see http://talks.pardesusa.org There is no charge for the talk, but you must register in advance.
The second announcement is that Rabbi Meir Schweiger is continuing to deal with the Israeli construction industry while he moves homes in Israel. As a result, he was unable to record a new podcast for this week. The enclosed podcast is a reprise of his podcast on Ekev from last summer.
